Originally part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, Beachwood became an independent village in 1915. By 1960, the town had enough residents to attain city status. Initially named “Beechwood” after the numerous Beech trees found in the area, the reason for the city’s current spelling is widely disputed.
Today, the City of Beachwood is a thriving, multicultural community, and suburb of Cleveland, with over 12,000 full-time residents.
