Women are more likely to be affected by dementia than men. Past research has attributed this to there being, simply, more women than men – which, upon closer inspection, is not true.

Comfort Ease Home Care is a Non-Medical Home Care Agency in Beachwood, OH that prides itself on being able to provide high-quality memory care services that are founded upon the latest in dementia research.

The following are factors that shape a woman’s risk of dementia:

  • The number of periods.
Studies have shown that the time between adolescence and menopause correlated with a woman’s risk of developing dementia. The shorter the period heightened this risk, and the longer this time was, the lower the risk became.
  • The number of months pregnant.
This is one of the more intriguing pieces of evidence of the link between Alzheimer’s disease and women. A recent study conducted found that a woman who spent more time being pregnant had, more or less, a twenty percent lower risk of getting dementia compared to another otherwise identical woman.
  • Age starting hormone therapy.
Past research has also established the existing connection between the time one took hormone therapy and the risk of developing dementia. It proved that receiving therapy relatively early at around your mid-50s had little to no impact on the risk level while doing so ten years later significantly heightened your chances of getting the disease.

Various dementia types plague a good number of our aging population, which is why Home Care Providers are determined to deliver a level of memory care that is based on emerging evidence-based findings.
